What is E-mail Marketing?

E-mail marketing is just what it sounds like. It is when you market a product through electronic mail. Sounds simple enough, right?

You might be asking yourself, why is email marketing important and how can it help my online business? The more people you send e-mails to promoting your products, the more sales will be generated. This is because you can send these e-mails to exhisting customers as well as potentially new customers.

Exhisting customers are the people who have purchased from you before and you likely stored their e-mail address and added it to your “list”. You can send promotions, discounts, sale information, new product information, etc. with the hopes that these exhisting customers will return for another purchase.

New customer e-mail addresses are usually acquired through a newsletter sign-up, or a list that can be purchased from another company that specializes in that sort of thing, although SPAM is one of the worste and most annoying tactics used today, so be careful not to anger your customers by sending TOO many e-mails their way. They may just end up blocking your e-mails. Just so you know, I have a list of about 100 e-mail addresses black-listed, which means that I will NEVER see an e-mail from them again. Hooray!

You will always want to put links back to your website in your e-mails so that customers can access your page quickly and easily should they decide they want to check out what you’re offering. Putting direct links to your affiliate products is another way of generating more sales that doesn’t require the customer to ever even see your web page!

Besides generating mroe sales, e-mail marketing is also very cost-effective. Think about how much money it would cost you to send promotional content to each and every person on your “list” by regular mail. If you have 100 people on your “list”, it will cost you a minimum of $42! Now, if you eventually acquire a longer list, which you definitely WANT to do, it can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars! This is all in comparison to paying absolutely nothing to send e-mails!

Some other benefits to think about are:

  • Delivery Time: E-mail gets to the customers inbox within seconds whereas regular mail can take days.
  • Tracking: E-mails are easily trackable whereas regular mail would need to be “return receipt requested”, which can cost up to five times more than just a regular stamp.
  • Discovery: You can rely on people visiting your website when they do a search, or you can send an e-mail and be sure that they know about your products and promotions. Whether they actually open and read the e-mail is another story, but there are ways to track that as well.
  • Environmentally Sound: E-mail doesn’t require any paper! Save a tree while you market your products!

Most affiliate programs and courses offer e-mail templates and tips on how to generate a large “list” of e-mail addresses. Make sure you do your research and find the product that is right for YOU!
