The Other Text Link

If you have spent more than a few minutes studying search engine optimization and web traffic building then you know that text links are important — most especially one-way links from quality sites.

So many people interested in building traffic to their sites spend a lot of time, effort, and money building text links to their sites. They purchase links in link directories, buy links from brokers and site owners, and even swap links.  Others try different methods like forum posting, blog commenting, and article writing.

But most of these people overlook one very easy and inexpensive way to achieve one-way, often permanent, text links from quality sites. What is this method of text linking? It is usually called Ezine Advertising!

That’s right, just like pork is the other white meat, ezine advertising is the other way to text link.

There are many advantages of ezine advertising when it comes to text link building:

1. You get the added bonus of email marketing benefits
2. Text link surrounded by relevant content, your ad copy, that you wrote specifically for that purpose
3. Limited outbound links competing with yours. Ezines only sell a few ads per issue (many only sell one or two) so your text link will be only one of a few.
4. When the issue is archived on the web (which is how you achieve your permanent text link) the page is usually text-heavy with the content that search engines love
5. The site where your permanent text link resides (the ezine archives) is regularly updated and in turn regularly visited by search engines

All these advantages roll into one additional bonus for you. The text links appear to have developed organically and naturally — not as so many traditional text links do — which makes them even more powerful and effective in terms of traffic building and search engine optimization.

And unlike so many text links which are purchased monthly or for a limited time, an ezine ad is purchased for a particular issue and will remain alive for the months or years that the issue is archived. If you aren’t sure how long an ezine archives then check their web site. Many ezines and newsletters archive for years.

Pick Yourself A Guru.

Copyright 2006 Homer Farey

What is a Guru? A guru is just another name for a teacher, a mentor.     On the internet, a guru is recognised as someone who has lots of experience and has made the grade. He/She has set up a business that is financially successful and is willing to pass on their knowledge to other, less experienced web users.   Are you a Guru? If not, please read on. The majority of internet Gurus are only too happy to teach. Therefore, becoming a Guru in the true sense of the word.   Pick yourself a Guru. There are at least a dozen who not only publish a newsletter with articles showing some of the tricks of their trade but have also published books showing in detail the best ways of running a business.   Learn from the real experts. There are hundreds of people out there who purport to be experts in e-commerce.  Most of them have just read a few books on the subject and in turn composed their own book comprised of second hand information.

You may well ask ‘What’s wrong with that? It’s the same information written in a different style.’ I consider it to be cheating, even if it is within the law. The problem is a mixture of different techniques can cause confusion and fail completely in it’s purpose.

I’m not a guru. I am not making thousands of pounds every month. I make as much as I need and take the rest of the week off. You may well ask ‘In that case, why should I take any notice of you?’ That is a very  good question. It’s only fair that I try to answer it.

I have been on the internet for over seven years. Three years ago I decided to start my own business selling information products on-line. I had no idea as to how I was going to do it but I made the descision.

I read a lot of books on the subject. I tried this way and that. Every author seemed to have his/her own method of doing things. Each one believed that their way was the only way  to attain success. The point was that each way worked for that particular individual.

This was most confusing. I spent a lot of time and money going one way, only to be side tracked into a different direction by another well meaning expert using an entirely different method. I was about to give up the whole idea and save what money that I had left when a phrase in one book took my attention. It went like this.

“There are as many right ways of setting up a business on the internet as there are wrong ways. You can mix up lots of different wrong ways and still get it wrong. On the other hand, if you mix up a number of different right ways of doing it you are likely to have found yet another way of doing it wrong.

In other words. A mixture of different techniques can cause confusion and completely fail in its purpose. It was patently obvious what I was doing wrong.

I am sure you can see the point that I am trying to make. There are a number of right ways. There are probably a number of other right ways that have not been discovered yet. Human nature being what it is, it’s probably easier to find a wrong way than a right one.

Make your choice. Each Guru has a successful way of starting and running a business on-line.   Pick just one Guru and study his/her system. Don’t be sidetracked. Study your chosen system. Your Guru made it work. You can make it work for you.  Who are these Gurus?  I could give you a list. It  would be subjective in as much as they may not be the ones that another person would choose. The one that I chose may not suit your temperament. It’s up to you to make the choice. There are at least a dozen well known figures who are making at least a six figure income who started from scratch with little money but a lot of determination . They made it. So can you. Don’t even think of giving up. You can do whatever you believe you can do. Until you try you have no ides of your potential. Get in there. Give it a go. Homer

Is Your Tracking Url Costing You Sales?

Did you know that your tracking url could be costing you sales?

It’s true! Repeatedly experienced marketers have learned that using a tracking link lowers the click through rate of any ad. If you think about it this does make sense. How often do you click through on a link that reads like a line of gibberish?

First and foremost, the internet is about trust. If you do not offer a link that at least appears “trustworthy” then many people aren’t going to click. And ask yourself the hard question? Does a link filled with an odd sequence of letters and numbers appear trustworthy to you?

Another drawback to using a tracking url is that ezine ads often have a very long life — often much longer than that of any tracking url or program. You don’t want to lose out on the potential of a long-term link or future visitors because of your tracking url.

If you are able to use your main web site address or a subpage then it just appears so much more trustworthy. Plus you are more likely to catch people in the future who lost your original ad but NOW want to visit your site. They will never remember a complicated tracking url but may remember BoatsRus.com etc.

No matter how much you want to be able to promote your web site directly there is still that tricky question of being able to track click throughs. Well there is actually a simple (and free) way to do both.

You create a redirect page.

This way you can promote your main url and have a unique page to track clicks. In fact, you can even name your page something to make it even more clickworthy, such as boatsrus.com/classicboats.php .

You can create unique landing pages for any number of advertisements but this might be time consuming. It is far simpler to code that page with a redirect script that loads whatever sales landing page you choose.

Now you can track your clicks without worrying about losing customers due to unfriendly tracking urls. You will always have full control over the url so you can change the redirect destination at any time and if you ever choose to take it down the visitor will still land on your site. It is the perfect tracking system!  It also works great for affiliate links.

Education is the Key for Success in Internet Marketing

More and more people are considering the World Wide Web as a great opportunity to offer their products and services to a new, bigger market or even as a chance to create entirely new businesses online.

Even if the perspective to reach millions of potential customers is surely exciting, the truth is that internet marketing is more difficult than it may seems and if you don’t have a sufficient experience you will usually waste a lot of time and resources doing things that don’t produce the results you expect.

For this reason, seeking advice from competent internet marketing experts is essential if you want to succeed online.

Hiring a consultant can be very expensive, but fortunately this is not the only possibility.

In fact you can utilize one of the many internet marketing informational products (like books, manuals or ebooks) that are available online.

There are complete courses that deal with every possible aspect of the entire process of building, managing and promoting your business online.

Other products concern very specific topics like how to write effective advertisements or sales letters, or how to promote your site on search engines.

You can usually choose among a great variety of media formats: printed manuals, downloadable ebooks that allow you to use the product immediately, CD-ROMs, or even videos and audio tapes, if reading a big manual is not something for you.

The only risk is to be confused by so many possible choices. So how can you determine the product more suited to your needs?

When I need to decide about the purchase of an informational product, the first thing I do is reading each and every page of the author’s site.

You may think that the informations on a site designed to sell a product are, by definition, not objective.

But you can still find a lot of useful elements that will help you with your decision.

The following are the most important for me.

1) How is the product presented?

Reputable authors will never tell you that you will be able to make a lot of money without work simply by reading their ebook or manual.

They will warn you that personal efforts are always needed to succeed online and every concept you learn must be applied to your particular situation.

Disappointment is the only thing you will earn from an informational product that is presented like a ‘magic recipe’ to make money fast and without efforts.

2) How many details the author gives about him/herself especially with regard to past business experiences?

You want to be sure that you are about to spend your money to learn proven techniques successfully tested on real businesses not some vague theory.

3) Does the site contain customers testimonials? Do they sound genuine?

A testimonial should be always followed by a full name, a website or email address so that it can be verified.

4) What kind of guarantee is offered should you dislike the product once you have purchased it?

Ideally every good informational product should be covered by a full money back guarantee as it’s always the best protection for your investment.

If you pay attention you will find many other elements that will tell you a lot about the author and the product he/she sells.

Learning how to market online is an ongoing process. Even if your personal work is always needed, with ebooks, manuals, courses you can learn from successful marketers experiences, concentrate your efforts on strategies that worked for them and consequently avoid mistakes and save time and resources.

Goals, Plans and Actions & The Future of Marketing (Conventional and Internet)

I read a quote once:
“It’s not a tragedy not to achieve a goal it’s a tragedy not to have that goal to achieve!”
How many people wonder through life, without any aim or purpose, just passing the days?  How many people with the best of intentions set a goal and go about trying to achieve it, and just because of an “issue”, they give up on the goal, then they fall into the aimless category?

How many people are just plain stubborn – like time – just go on and on to achieve their goal but don’t because they didn’t realise all that was hindering their success was a minor issue that could have been resolved if help had been sought!

To succeed in anything you need to have the right mindset, planning and action are simply not enough.  You need a positive attitude, accept that you will make mistakes, accept that it wont happen by tomorrow and most importantly be willing to listen and learn (ask for help – don’t be afraid).

Whatever your goals are, at some point along the way it will involve money – whether your goal is to be the next Bill Gates or Warren Buffet or simply to help the helpless you still need money (via profit or donation).  I’ve come across a straightforward and simple method of helping to achieve that goal, they are profiting from Internet Marketing.  How many people use the internet now?  It’s not small is it? – Lets face its only going to grow with increasing use in emerging markets like China and India (I was in India last year there is hardly any internet use – I felt lost without my buddy “the internet”!

These days, companies are looking for better methods they can relay their messages to potential consumers – so as to reduce advertising costs and increase customer acquisition (and later retention).
There are 3 ways that messages can be relayed at minimal or no cost.
1. Face to Face Direct Marketing – visiting potential customers at their place of residence (check local law to see if this allowed where you reside)
2. Internet Marketing – having even a basic website that has some traffic coming to it – is better than having no website – there is more chance of attracting/retaining customers.
3. Word of Mouth/Email – Have you ever told someone about a product or service that you’ve had a good experience with?  Whether you do it by telling someone or emailing them, it’s a recommendation from a positive experience.
As advertising budgets decrease and competition increase the use of the above methods of marketing are simply put “the way forward”.

What about me?  There are many ways for you to market online, you can market other peoples products (be an affiliate).  You could even create your own product or service (maybe you already have one).  The first thing to have a basic website; best of all – you don’t need to hire anyone - these techniques can be learnt for little or no cost.

I came across a course that taught me to build my own website – in under a week I learnt what I thought would take at least a year at college.  There are various things on this course that interested me; I’m not going to get into the exact content – the BEST thing for me was that everything was SHOWN to me – step by step.  I’m sure you’ll agree – that’s the best way for people to learn something new.

If you want to open more doors in terms of potential income and satisfaction then Internet Marketing might just be your ticket!

Great audio books for business people

For most of us who are business people, we love to improve our business acumen via reading and taking courses, but we lack the time to do so.

And this is right where audio books have now started to play an incredible important role in our lives.

I'm assuming that if you're reading this, you're a businessman or woman, interesting in improving your business acumen - and now you can! Just use the amazing value inherent in listening to audio books. You won't have to worry about not having the time or will to flip through the pages of a book.

With an audio book you can enjoy the same value of any business book when preparing to go to work in the morning, when commuting to and fro work, etc.

If you are at loose for the specific business audio books to go for, below are 5 of some of the best that any business person shouldn’t do without listening to:

1. How to win friends and influence people - by Dale Carnegie

You might think a little differently to me, but in my world, the absolute most important aspect of my business is PEOPLE. It is vital that you understand the importance of the people - they are the life blood that keeps your business going.

There aren't just the people that bring in the sales, these people are also the ones that make the sales a possibility in the first place. To be able to succeed at this, we all need to know "how to win friends and influence people".

That's why this incredible book by Dale Carnegie is a "must have" for any person in business.

With the power of the information contained in this book, you can learn not just how to influence people to bring in more sales for your business, but most importantly how to win your friends and staff that will help you make the sales possible.

With audiobooks, you can kill two birds with 1 stone - listen to and audio book both enjoying and learning at the same time - whilst you are travelling from home to the office and back.

2. It’s not the big that eat the small… it’s the fast that eat the slow - by Jason Jennings and Laurence Haughton

In today's business, one of the single most common words that we need to embrace is "CHANGE". In a constantly "updated" world, we need to be ready to embrace and implement changes to our businesses.

This audio book by Jason Jennings and Laurence Haughton, provides you with all the information on how to keep your company afloat, despite the ever-changing nature of business today.

Asserting that the fastest organizations in the world today will be those that will thrive, this audio book shows you how to make your company or business among these fastest, using the power of commerce, deployment of resources and good management of people.

3. Management Challenges for the 21st Century - by Peter F. Drucker

As you probably already know, in a gathering of experts on the subject, one name stands way above all the rest when it comes to business management and leadership. His name is Peter F. Drucker.

Drucker is definitely not talking from theories, he is talking from a wealth of experience after being in and writing about the industry for an incredible eighty years. He has been there and done that, when it comes to business and management.

This audiobook title explores in depth how 21st century management challenges can be handled by business professionals.

4. Jack: Straight from the Gut - by Jack Welch

There's no denying the fact that Jack Welch is one of the world's most successful CEOs ever.

In this powerful thought-provoking audio book, he tells his story detailing how you can follow his steps to become one of the most successful persons in your career today.

5. Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap - by Jim Collins

You can't argue with the fact that "without the techniques and strategies, no company or business can excel beyond a few days, weeks or even months".

Companies that have been around for years and years, are still around for a reason, they know what to do, and they have done it right.

The author has taken quite some time to collate the results from his extensive studies of companies who have had business success for many, many years - looking into what they are doing so right, that their counterparts are not.

The power of the information contained within this business audio book can help any business person to succeed.

I can guarantee that the five audio books I have selected (and have listened to in-depth myself) can really boost both your career and your business if you are willing to apply what you learn from them.

An excellent source that I have found for audio book downloads is Spoken Network. They can be found at:

A good place to download your favorite audio books

With the popularity of audio books, there are now many places to buy the audio book of your choice.

Prior to the Internet, we all had no option but to physically visit the bookstores or order via phone or mail, but now with the advent of the Internet, you could search through for the exact audio book you want, check out the cost and order it without leaving the comfort of your home or office.

It's safe to say that pretty much all of the audio book business is now online. Physical bookstores can't match the incredibly abundant advantages that shopping for audio books on the Internet provides.

The audio book market place on the Internet gives you the opportunity to instantly search for and find the particular audio book you are looking for.

Remember the days where you would have to actually go into book shops and search manually through countless books.

For those who don't have any online audio book store in mind, an excellent source that I have found for audio book downloads is Spoken Network.

www.spokennetwork.com?cam=ama0021.

Apart from this audio book store, there are other audio book stores in specific categories such as business, motivational, fiction, etc.

If you don't find the particular audio book of your choice from this major audio book store online, then use the search engines. It will be very helpful if you know either the exact name of the author or title. If you don't, it can end up being a case of "jargon in jargon out".

In other words, if you type in the wrong name of an author of an audio book you desire, it will be extremely difficult for you to find the particular audio book.
